Whodini – “Five Minutes Of Funk”
I’m not going to let reckless events happening in 2021 throw off too much of my orderly list of topics this year like it did in 2020. So I’ll discuss my controversial views on that recent Capitol Hill Insurrection and other political stuff as they play out, AFTER I see whether or not a transition to President Biden happens or not in the coming days because it’s important to see people make their own independent choices sometimes without outside influence. For now, I’ll entertain you with the recent passing of a Rap Icon I felt should have received more mainstream coverage.
I recently learned that John “Ecstasy” Fletcher of the Iconic Rap Trio Whodini, died at age 56 on December 23rd 2020. The cause of death is unknown. Whodini was one of my all-time favorite rap acts. I simply loved their rap and fashion sense. I don’t have much to say because in cases like this, losing yet another musical favorite, I just grieve and enjoy the nostalgic past.

Saxophonist Ronald “Khalis” Bell, one of the Founders of Kool & The Gang died September 9th 2020 at age 68. His band Co-Founder brother is Robert “Kool” Bell. From what has not been made known to the public. Well what can I say about this band? They had a lot of popular party jams I liked listening to. I played their music regularly back in the day. It’s nostalgic when I listen to them now. They were one of my favorite bands. They had nine members who played together through the many years as it dwindled down to about 7 or 6 remaining guys on the cover of their albums. Their music endured from them forming and playing in clubs in the mid 1960s, to the 1970s, throughout the 1980s, the 1990s and into the Millennia. They played Funk, Jazz, R&B Soul, Pop, and yes there even some Rock in there. Very talented group! Aside from the dance music, their ballads were exceptional as well. Timeless love songs still being played on the radio. Though we still have the surviving members, Kool has moved on into Heaven to play in the band of Angels.
